#18: A Breakdown of Different Types Of TV Parts in LCD's, LED's & Plasma's

Posted by TV Parts Guy Team on 21st Jul 2015

In previous entries, we've talked about how to identify certain circuit boards in a TV and so far to date, they have all been for LCD or LED TV's since both of them share similar parts. We think it may be helpful to point out all of the most common parts found in each of the following TV's: Plasma's, LCD's and LED's. As you may have already figured out by now, each type of flat panel TV will have a distinct set of parts.

LCD TV's typically contain these circuit boards:

  • Main Board
  • Power Supply Board
  • T-Con Board
  • Backlight Inverter Board
  • FRC Board (optional)
  • IR Sensor
  • Keypad Controller

LED TV's typically contain these circuit boards:

  • Main Board
  • Power Supply Board
  • T-Con Board
  • LED Driver
  • FRC Board (optional)
  • IR Sensor
  • Keypad Controller

Plasma TV's typically contain these circuit boards:

  • Main Board (also known as A (For Panasonic))
  • Power Supply Board (also known as P (For Panasonic))
  • X-Sustain Board (also known as SS (For Panasonic), XSUS (For LG), X-Main (For Samsung))
  • Y-Sustain Board (also known as SC (For Panasonic), YSUS (For LG), Y-Main (For Samsung))
  • Main Logic Control Board (also known as D (For Panasonic), CTRL (For LG), Logic Main (For Samsung))
  • Buffer Board (also known as SU or SD (For Panasonic), YDRVTOP or YDRVBTM (For LG), Y-Buffer (For Samsung))

Now, having said that, it's important to note that sometimes, any one of these boards can be integrated together.

LCD TV's and LED TV's are known to integrate the Main Board with these circuit boards:

  • T-Con Board
  • FRC Board
  • Power Supply Board
  • Backlight Inverter Board
  • LED Driver
  • Keypad Controller
  • IR Sensor

LCD TV's and LED TV's are known to integrate the Power Supply with these circuit boards:

  • Backlight Inverter Board
  • LED Driver

LCD TV's and LED TV's are known to integrate the T-Con Board with:

  • TV Panel

Plasma TV's are known to integrate the Y-Sustain with these circuit boards:

  • X-Sustain Board
  • Buffer Board

Plasma TV's are known to integrate the Main Board with these circuit boards:

  • Main Logic Control Board

It isn't always the case that these boards will be integrated together but we suspect that TV manufacturers do this to "save space" and make the unit lighter or to make room for special speakers or fancy gimmicks. In any case, we still think it's important to bear all of this in mind when conducting any kind of repair in a TV.
